Kuyukai South Africa was formed by a group of senior Goju Ryu Instructors mostly from the previously disadvantaged Community in South Africa, after many years and months of discussions who shared similar problems such as:
Lack of development of Goju Ryu Karate Instructor / Students / Schools in the previously disadvantaged communities
Lack of recognition for the previously disadvantaged Goju instructors
Non- accessible, high cost or very expensive fees involved
Closure and resignation of most senior Goju instructors / students and schools from the previously disadvantaged community.
High racialism
Lack of transformation
This group decided to establish an independent organisation that will look at the promotion and spreading of Goju Ryu Karate in all the communities that will reflect the true representation according to the geographical population of the country (previously disadvantaged, poor, rich, urban areas and rural areas, irrespective of race, colour, creed, religion, gender and including physically challenged people) in all the corners of South Africa and the African continent as a whole.
This group mandated Shihan Humphrey Skosana to research for an independent organisation in Japan, that is a well recognised, respected Goju Ryu Karate Organisation by the Japan Karate Federation (JKF) and that will share our similar Vision, Missions and Objectives in the development of Goju Ryu Karate-do.
This led to a meeting in Centurion, Pretoria on the 18 August 2007 for submission of the feedback on the research conducted that led to the establishment of Goju Ryu Karate Kuyu-Kai under Saiko-Shihan Osamu Hirano (Founder & President), a legendary karateka from Wakayama, Japan, a former all Japan Goju Kai Champion and senior student of Shozo Ujita Hanshi, the first president of the JKF Goju Kai.
Our organisation is open to all communities irrespective of gender, race, language, colour, religion, political affiliation, creed and to people who living with disabilities who share our vision, missions and objectives.
